What is this tool?
Shifting a track's pitch by semitones (as many DJ turntables, pitch-shift plugins, and tape/vinyl speed changes do) changes its playback speed by 2^(semitones/12) — 12 semitones is a full octave, which doubles the speed. This tool converts a semitone shift to a playback rate and resulting BPM, or works in reverse: given an original and target BPM, it solves for the semitone shift needed to get there.
How to use it
- Choose a direction: shifting pitch, or targeting a BPM.
- Enter the semitone shift (or target BPM) and, optionally, the original BPM.
- Read the playback rate, percentage speed, and resulting/required BPM.
