Wire Gauge & Ampacity Calculator
Look up AWG properties and estimate copper DC voltage drop.
Not an NEC / electrical-code reference. Ampacity here is an approximate chassis-wiring hobby table. It is not NFPA 70 (NEC) branch-circuit ampacity and must not be used for building wiring or code compliance. Real ampacity depends on insulation, temperature rating, ambient conditions, and bundling — follow the applicable electrical code and manufacturer data sheets.

What is this tool?
American Wire Gauge (AWG) sizes map to conductor diameter and resistance. This tool shows approximate chassis-wiring (hobby) ampacity figures — not NEC/NFPA 70 branch-circuit ampacity — and estimates DC voltage drop using copper resistivity over a round-trip length. Never use these numbers for building wiring or electrical-code compliance; ampacity depends on insulation, temperature, and installation method.
How to use it
- Select an AWG or enter a target current to get a chassis-wiring size suggestion.
- Enter load current and one-way cable length for voltage-drop estimate.
- Treat ampacity as a hobby reference only — not NEC compliance.
